Eye Movement desensitization & reprocessing (emdr)

WHAT IS EMDR?

EMDR therapy is a powerful, research-based treatment designed to help individuals heal from trauma, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and more. It can also be used for performance enhancement. EMDR uses bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, tactile tappers, touch, or audio tones, to reprocess a memory or a somatic experience. People often notice a much shorter experience of feeling “activated” while a memory is reprocessed.

When a traumatic or disturbing experience occurs, it often gets “stuck” or “trapped” and isn’t able to be processed.  EMDR allows the memory to be fully processed which will alleviate PTSD symptoms, feeling stuck in fight, flight or freeze and will help with flashbacks.

What are EMDR Therapy IntensiveS?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy Intensives are designed to accelerate the therapeutic process by concentrating multiple hours of therapy into a shorter timeframe. This approach allows for more rapid healing compared to the traditional weekly one-hour sessions.

Before the EMDR Therapy Intensive, we will meet for a Pre-Intensive Interview to establish your goals, evaluate your current life, and identify your support systems, stressors, coping strategies, and areas for growth. During the intensive, we strive to lessen the pain for healing and install resources you can use whenever you need them. Each EMDR Therapy Intensive is personalized to meet your needs and goals. Upon completion, we will meet for a Post-Intensive Interview to reflect on the most meaningful elements of the intensive and how you can use this new learning and healing in your life.

    preverbal trauma and intergenerational trauma

Intergenerational trauma, also known as transgenerational trauma or historical trauma, refers to the psychological and emotional effects that the experience of trauma has not only on the individual who directly experiences it but also on subsequent generations. This concept recognizes that trauma can have far-reaching effects that extend beyond the immediate aftermath and impact descendants who may not have experienced the traumatic events themselves.

The EMDR Preverbal Trauma Protocol is a gentle and effective method for healing early, non-verbal trauma. The Preverbal Trauma Protocol specifically addresses trauma experienced before the development of language, such as during infancy or early childhood.

This protocol recognizes that preverbal trauma can manifest in physical sensations, emotions, and implicit memories rather than explicit, verbal memories. By using this protocol, individuals are able to process and integrate these early traumatic experiences.
